Duragard Plus Coating System

Duragard® Plus coatings are premium high build architectural finishes that provide premium performance in color retention and fade resistance. Duragard® Plus coatings provide an added level of protection with an additional .8 mil PVDF clear top coat.

  1. .8 mil nominal Polyvinylidene Fluoride Clear Coat*
  2. .8 mil nominal Polyvinylidene Fluoride Color Coat*
  3. .8 mil nominal Primer
  4. Substrate – G-90 galvanized steel, aluminum

Performance Characteristics

The following performance characteristics are reflected in accordance with ASTM test procedures:

  • Weatherometer Test (ASTM D822-86, G23-88)

    Passes 5,000 hours. No objectionable chalking, color change or adhesion loss.

  • Accelerated Weathering (ASTM G53 Q.U.V.)

    2,000 hours. Color change 0.9 units (DE. No blistering or adhesion loss)

  • Dew Cycle Weatherometer (ASTM D3361)

    1,000 hours. Color change 3.6 units (DE. No chalking)

  • Specular Gloss (ASTM D523-89 at 60°)

    Coating shall have a gloss of 30 ± 5.

  • Chalking Resistance (ASTM D4214-89)

    Florida Exposure: 20 years at 45° S.
    Maximum rating of 8.

  • Color Change (ASTM D2244)

    Florida Exposure: 20 years at 45° S.
    Maximum 5 units change.

  • Humidity Resistance (ASTM D2247-87)

    2,000 hours Cleveland Condensing Cabinet at 100°F. No blisters, no rust, no color change, no loss of adhesion on bends.

  • Salt Spray (ASTM B117-85)

    2,000 hours with exposed panels scribed. Trace blisters with no creepage at scribe.

  • Pollution Resistance Test (ASTM D1308-87)

    10% HCL, 15 minutes – no effect.
    20% H2SO4, 18 hours – no effect.

  • Formability T-Bend (ASTM D4145-90)

    No cracking or tape removal of film at 0-T bend.

  • Impact Resistance Test (ASTM D2794-84)

    Impact in in./lb. = 2,000 x metal thickness – no cracking or adhesion loss.

  • Abrasion Resistance Test Falling Sand (ASTM D968-91)

    Liters to expose 5/329 of substrate – 200 liters.

*Polyvinylidene Fluoride (PVDF) coat contains 70% Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000® resin. Kynar 500 is a registered trademark of Elf Atochem North America, Inc. Hylar 5000 is a registered trademark of Ausimont USA, Inc.

Available Substrates

  • Standard G-90 hot-dip galvanized steel conforming to ASTM A924 and ASTM A653 structural quality
  • Galvalume steel, hot-dip coated with aluminum-zinc alloy conforming to ASTM A924 and ASTM A792
  • Aluminum Alloy 3003 or 5052 and for standing seam roof panels, 3004**, available in smooth surface as a substrate
